FREE TSS TRAINING IS AVAILABLE

If you would like to attend one of our Technical Surveillance Training programs free, the Regional Counterdrug Training Academy (RCTA) located at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Meridian, Mississippi will accord you with that opportunity.

The Regional Counterdrug Training Academy (RCTA) was established in 1992 at the Naval Air Station in Meridian, Mississippi. Its mission is to provide no-cost, “street level”, casemaking, counterdrug skills to state, county and municipal law enforcement officers. The RCTA is Congressionally funded through the Department of Defense, and is managed by the Mississippi National Guard, however, the courses are taught by guest subject matter experts with a “cops training cops” mentality.

Law Enforcement Officers attend in a tuition-free status, with room and board paid by the RCTA. The only expense to law enforcement is the transportation cost to and from NAS Meridian, and of course, the officer’s salary while in school. The premise is that the purveyors of illegal drugs have almost unlimited financial resources, and law enforcement agencies are on the opposite end of this spectrum. Tragically, expensive training is often out-of-reach for most law enforcement agencies, and cops are having to train while on the streets. Obviously, the “battlefield” is a tough place to be trained. The RCTA was established to help ease this training dilemma.

The Academy emphasizes “hands-on” training, and has five classrooms in two buildings, an eleven-building field training site for practical exercises, and a Distant Learning Center. Being located on an active federal military installation, we also offer a secure training environment.

Since 1992, the RCTA has provided no-cost training to thousands of law enforcement officers. The original charter was limited to the states of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi, but in 1996 was modified to include Georgia. The RCTA is also authorized to train officers from outside this four state region, as well as National Guard personnel involved in counterdrug efforts.

SPECIAL TUITION ASSISTANCE

While TSS does not offer, or provide free training anywhere other than at RCTA, we do have a special tuition assistance program that is available to your department under certain circumstances.

Should your department unexpectedly find itself caught “off-guard” with a special kind, or type of criminal activity that requires specific esoteric technical investigative skills which you do not presently possess, then TSS may provide such skill training to you free of charge. In order to qualify for this assistance you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Have the Head of your agency submit the request on Departmental letterhead.
  2. The letter should include a brief statement to the effect that;
    1. a special situation does in fact exist;
    2. your specific technical investigative training needs are (please list them);
    3. these skills are not presently available to your agency;
    4. funds for payment of tuition to TSS are not available and cannot be obtained;
    5. these skills are needed by a specific date, or time frame.
    6. a specific point of contact (POC) should be named, and a phone number for that POC.

Your request will receive our immediate attention, and your designated POC will be notified promptly of the date(s) and location of our next appropriate course. TSS will support your training needs in every way possible, and we will extend such other assistance as we can with no “strings” attached. All we ask in return is that you do not take unfair advantage of this offer.
